A CHANCE TO HAVE YOUR STORY PUBLISHED

Opening March 2014

Written Portraits: A National Creative Writing Competition for Australian Teenagers is a collaboration between Forming Circles Pty Ltd and Green Olive Press.

ABOUT WRITTEN PORTRAITS

Written Portraits is a national annual writing competition that showcases young Australian writing talent and provides a creative platform for expression of inner feelings and emotions associated with being a teenager. The competition was launched in 2012 during the National Year of Reading to inspire and motivate young people to explore their writing skills, and support the need to tackle falling literacy standards in Australia.

The competition has grown since 2012, now entering its third year; Written Portraits, which is the brainchild of Renata Cooper of Forming Circles, is continuing to create opportunities for young Australian writers to be published. The past two years have been a great success and we were thrilled with how many students across Australia participated. The entries were inspired and expressive, displaying an array of strength, imagination and storytelling that exceeded all expectations.

COMPETITION DETAILS

Australian High School students, between the ages of 13 and 18 will be invited to write a short story between 800 and 1200 words that encompasses the 2014 theme People, Places and Things that Inspire Me.

The storyteller can be as expressive, creative and imaginative as they like capturing; an object, a person, a fictional character, or whatever this theme resonates with them just as long as it includes an issue that is important to them as a young person living in Australia.

Entrants may wish to seek assistance from teachers, parents, guardians, or someone with a keen eye for detail.
